01What we collect
When you use Talk to Tender, we collect:
- Account information: the name you enter during onboarding, and the email address and account identifier Apple returns if you sign in with Apple. If you use “Hide My Email”, we receive a relay address instead.
- Onboarding answers: your mood, goals, and the reflective questions you answer before your first entry.
- Journal entries: the text you write, and the analysis Talk to Tender produces from it.
- Mood check-ins: the mood you select, any tags, and any note you add.
- Chat messages exchanged with Tender, the companion in the app.
- Device information: device type, OS version, and a push notification token.
- Usage events: which screens and features are used, so we can see what works.
We do not collect your location, your contacts, or your photos. A profile picture you choose stays on your device.
If you use Talk to Tender without an account, your data is tied to an anonymous identifier on your device rather than to your name or email.
What you write, how you feel, and a little about your phone. Not where you are, who you know, or your photos.
02How we use it
We use your data to:
- Store your journal and mood history and show it back to you
- Produce the reflections, patterns and insights Talk to Tender shows you
- Hold your conversation with Tender
- Send the reminders you opt in to
- Process subscriptions and in-app purchases
- Keep the service secure and improve the app
We never sell your personal information, and we do not use your journal entries for advertising.
To keep your journal, read it, and talk it through with you. That's the whole list.
03AI processing
To produce insights and companion replies, the text you write is sent to OpenAI for processing over an encrypted connection.
Your entries are not used to train third-party models. We send only what is needed to answer the request at hand, and the results are stored with your account so you can read them again later.
If you'd rather not have your writing processed this way, you can still write entries. The analysis features will simply be unavailable.
OpenAI's models read your entry so I can answer you. They don't learn from it.
04Who else is involved
We share data only with the companies that help us run Talk to Tender, and only for the job listed:
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Five helpers. One job each. Nobody else.
05Keeping and deleting
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from the app's settings:
- Your account, journal entries, mood entries and chat history are deleted from our database
- Your sessions and push notification tokens are revoked immediately
- Any profile picture stored on your device is removed
Deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account.
It stays while you do. Delete your account and it's gone. Properly gone.
06Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Reading your journal requires your own signed-in session, and we don't write the contents of your entries to our server logs.
No system is perfectly secure. If we learn of a breach that affects your data, we will tell you.
Locked to you, encrypted on the way, and kept out of our logs.
07Your rights
You can:
- Read your journal and mood history at any time in the app
- Edit or delete any individual entry
- Delete your account and everything associated with it
- Turn off notifications in your device settings
- Request a copy of your data by contacting us
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, such as objecting to processing or complaining to your local data protection authority. Contact us and we'll help.
Your journal. Read it, change it, take a copy, or bin it.
08Age
Talk to Tender is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a minor is using Talk to Tender, contact us and we'll delete the account.
Grown-ups only. 18 and up.
09Not medical care
Talk to Tender is a journalling and reflection tool. It is not therapy, it is not a medical device, and it does not provide diagnosis or treatment.
I'm a good listener. I'm not a doctor. In an emergency, call real help.
10Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
If something important changes, I'll tell you in the app first.
